【内容】

オサマ・ビン・ラディン氏の殺害を受けて、オバマ大統領が出した声明です。

この件の是非は今は一切問いません。これが「正義」なのか、そうでないのかについては様々な議論が可能ですし、その議論は必要でしょう。

しかし、ここではスピーチという点で注目してください。

スピーチの仕方。姿勢。口調。声の表情。そして何より、スピーチの言葉遣い。（内容の是非はさておき）少なくとも下記のような明言は、日本の政治家からは出てきそうにありません。

So Americans understand the costs of war. Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda’s terror: Justice has been done.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

現在、日本は「未曽有の国難」に立ち向かっていますが、日本の政治家から力強い言葉は聞かれたでしょうか。

私は、日本でもスピーチ教育が充実され、このようなスピーチが、少なくとも公人なら誰でも当たり前のようにできるようにならなければならないと考えます（この場合の公人には教師も含まれます）。

さもないとスピーチの巧拙で、妙に影響を受けたり（「ワン・フレーズ・ポリティックス」を覚えていますか？）、せっかく訴えるべき内容をもっていてもスピーチのやり方が下手で注目してもらえないことが生じます。


少なくとも英語教師は、（少なくとも準備をすれば）きちんと英語スピーチができるように自己訓練するべきだと私は主張します。
